All on 4 Q&A

What is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is an implant dentistry system that secures an entire arch of upper or lower artificial teeth using just four implanted metal posts. A wonderful alternative to individual dental implants, All-on-4 can restore your smile in just one visit (after your consultation appointment).

Full dentures also provide restoration for your smile, but dentures do nothing to preserve bone health. The implanted posts used in All-on-4 anchor directly into your jaw bone. This means your bone continues to receive the daily stimulation needed to remain healthy.

Bone loss can change the contour of your lower face. Over time, it also makes dentures fit less securely, which might lead to the need for a new set of dentures before your current device wears out.

Am I a good candidate for All-on-4?

All-on-4 is an exciting concept that doesn’t require the same jaw bone density as traditional individual dental implants. That means you can be a great candidate for All-on-4, even if you’ve been told you can’t have individual implants without first completing a bone grafting procedure.

Two of the four implanted posts used to secure All-on-4 are placed at an angle to take advantage of your existing bone structure. This creates a strong, reliable anchoring structure without the need to place numerous implanted posts.

How long does it take to get All-on-4?

The first step is a face-to-face consultation to discuss your treatment options. Your dentist examines your teeth to assess the extent of damage or decay.

Advanced tools like cone beam CT scanning provide insight into your teeth and bone structure to further guide your treatment planning. By the end of your visit, you have all the details and insight needed to make an informed decision about your care.

If you decide to move forward with All-on-4, an injection of numbing medication keeps you comfortable on the day of your procedure. Your dentist makes small incisions to access your jaw bone.

A pilot hole guides the placement of the implant posts. Next, your dentist attaches a customized arch of new teeth designed just for you. This completes the process, and you leave with your new smile ready to share.
